The Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- this morning pounced on a company which has allegedly been collecting Value Added Tax -VAT- from its customers but has not been remitting to the authority.
Ghemes Enterprises, which is located in the heavy industrial area of Lusaka, supplies building materials and the company has been issuing invoices with VAT inclusive but has not been compliant with the law.
Speaking after inspecting the company, ZRA Corporate Communications Manager OLIVER NZALA said the company will be written to and made to pay for all the VAT it has not been remitting.
Mr. NZALA said the inspection has revealed that the company was misinformed by a tax agent who did not provide the company with details on VAT remittance.
He also disclosed that the company is not registered for Pay As You Earn -PAYE despite having employed workers.
Ghemes Enterprises Managing Director MWANSA CHILUFYA said she did not know about remitting VAT to ZRA.
Ms. CHILUFYA said she has learnt a lot from the impromptu visit by ZRA inspectors and the company will now be tax compliant.
