The Zambia National Service – ZNS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding – MoU with an American company Landlock Natural Paving Inc. for the rehabilitation and construction of 5,000 kilometers of township roads valued at 725 million United States Dollars.
The joint venture will support the Rural Road Connectivity project under the Road Development Agency – RDA.
Speaking during the signing of the MoUs, Defence Minister AMBROSE LUFUMA said employment is expected to be created through the engagement of local contractors.
Mr. LUFUMA said the government has limited resources hence the call for Public Private Partnerships- PPPs to support developmental projects such as the rural roads rehabilitation and construction joint venture.
And US Ambassador to Zambia MICHAEL GONZALES said it is the duty of governments to do diligence in the procurement of services for the country.
Mr. GONZALES said value for money must be a priority area to look at when considering cooperating partners.
He commended the Zambian government for identifying a partner that will provide durable and quality road infrastructure at the right price.
Meanwhile Defence Permanent Secretary NORMAN CHIPAKUPAKU said the MoU has been signed in line with the PPP act and all processes were correctly followed.
