The Zambia Environmental Management Agency -ZEMA- has shut-down operations at Silverstone Quarry Mine in Lusaka West for failing to adhere to environmental guidelines.
This follows several complaints from the residents of dust emissions and noise pollution from blasting activities.
And ZEMA Acting Manager Corporate Affairs, MERCY ZULU says the suspension will only be lifted once the mine puts in place the necessary measures.
Ms. ZULU says the community in the area has continued complaining of the dust emissions from the quarrying activities.
Speaking after inspectors from the Agency visited the Mine, Ms ZULU has however appealed to all quarry Mines in Lusaka West to follow the environmental guidelines or risk being closed.
