Zambia U20 stars with a chance for trials in Spain

Zambia U20 national team players have a chance to attend trials at Spanish second-tier side CD Numancia.

This follows the announcement by the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) that they had forged a partnership with the Spanish football league, LaLiga, for the on-going 2019 COSAFA Under-20 Youth Championship in Lusaka, Zambia.

The partnership will see one footballer from the Southern African region with accorded a potentially life-changing opportunity of a trial at a professional club in Spain, CD Numancia who are currently competing in the prestigious LaLiga Smartbank Spains second division, second only to the exalted LaLiga Santander.

The footballer selected as Player of the COSAFA Under-20 Youth Championship may find themselves playing alongside international stars on a whole new level and may also get the chance to play for Numancias first team, which has been graced by previous African stars such as current RCD Mallorca striker Lago Junior from Ivory Coast, and former Cameroon midfielder Daniel Kom, who played for during the 2000/01 season.

Zambia who will face Angola in the semifinals of the 2019 COSAFA U20 Championships on Thursday afternoon at Nkoloma Stadium has a number of outstanding players who are among those likely to battle for this opportunity among them Patrick Gondwe, Jimmy Mukeya, and Francisco Mwepu.

It will, however, won’t be easy for the junior Copper Bullets players as Angola and South Africa have some outstanding players also and are expected to up their game following this announcement.

The lucky young winner will be announced after the COSAFA Under-20 Youth Championship final on 14 December by Enrique Suay, La Ligas Global Network Delegate in South Africa.
