(NAIS) Corteva Agri-science says Zambia can double its maize production and become a net exporter if farmers grow the crop at its maximum yield potential.
Corteva Zambia Managing Director SAMSON NYENDWA says most of the maize seed varieties produced in the country have the potential to yield above 12 tonnes per hectare which can double the country’s maize production if good agriculture practices are put in place.
Mr. NYENDWA told NAIS that once productivity increases from the current three tonnes to the potential of above 12 tonnes per hectare, the country will produce more and have excess to export.
He said seed companies have invested a lot in seed production technologies and have the capacity to supply hybrid seeds to satisfy both the local and international market.
