Zambia has so far recorded 14% towards the universal birth registration target of 50% by the year 2030.

Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security Information and Communication Technology Officer BRIAN MWANAMONGA, however, says the percentage stage is likely to go up as soon as statistics are updated.

Mr. MWANAMONGA was speaking in a interview with ZNBC news in LUSAKA.

He also disclosed that the digitalization of birth registration has boosted the speed of the exercise.

Mr. MWANAMONGA, however, said digitalization of birth registration faces challenges in remote area that are not connected to internet.

He said measures are being put in place to arrest the situation by connecting most remote areas to internet.

The United Nations has set 50 percent as the universal target for birth registration by the year 2030.
