Zambian Ambassador to Russia SHADRECK LUWITA says the lack of direct flights from Moscow to Lusaka has hampered flow of Russian tourists to Zambia.
Mr. LUWITA says the country is not getting a fair share of tourists from that country compared to destinations like Egypt and Istanbul which offer direct flights.
He says annually about 3-milliom Russian tourists visit Egypt while Istanbul receives about 3.5 million.
Mr. LUWITA has told ZNBC NEWS in St. Petersburg, Russia that African group of Ambassadors have been working to convince Russian authorities to resume commercial flights to Southern Africa so that the region can tap into Russian tourism inflows.
Mr. LUWITA said Zambia stands to benefit from this if it materializes.
He further notes that inadequate information about Zambian tourism products among Russians has contributed to low numbers.
The Zambian Ambassador added the embassy has since embarked on information sharing using various platforms such as TV and Conferences to sale Zambian tourism.
