Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga has revealed that the association has teamed up with the Government to expedite works at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
The Ndola based Stadium was supposed to be closed after the Chipolopolo Boys’ game with Ivory Coast.
The Stadium needs some upgrades before it can be used for an international match to meet the FIFA standards.
“Finally, the Chipolopolo have two back-to-back encounters against Congo Brazzaville and Niger next month in the Group H FIFA World Cup qualifiers. From the preparatory point of view everything remains on course with the team having utilised the FIFA window to refine their set up. There will be no other window preceding the two matches therefore we will have to stick to the FIFA competitive window to play the games,” Kamanga wrote in his weekly update The President’s corner.
“We are hopeful that our request to have our home matches played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola will be okayed. We have teamed up with the government who are the owners of the stadium to expedite work at the stadium to ensure that the team plays its matches at home,”
Kamanga also revealed that FAZ have raised concern with the Confederation of African Football CAF over Niger’s use of Morocco as their home for the qualifiers after their Stadia failed to meet the standard.
Kamanga said in the spirit of fair play they hope Morocco will act on the misnomer.
“We are also aware that Niger has requested to play their home match in Morocco which regrettably is in the same group with us. In the spirit of fair play, we have alerted CAF to this misnomer and hope they will act upon our request. We have no doubt our world cup campaign will get off to a flying start.”
The 2012 African Cup of Nations Champions will be busy again next month as they open their FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a home tie against Congo Brazzaville on November 17, 2023.
A week later Zambia will be away in Niger on match day 2 on 21st November.
