Zambia National Team forward Patson Daka believes the Chipolopolo Boys did everything they could against Egypt and it was just not their day.
Daka led the attack as Chipolopolo succumbed to a 1-0 loss against the Pharaohs in the UAE on Thursday.
The Leicester City forward feels the team put in a very good shift despite losing a bit of concentration towards the end to allow Egypt to score a late winner.
“It’s a tough defeat because the whole 90 minutes we tried our best to stay in the game and did everything we could.
We just needed more concentration to finish the game, and lacked a bit of concentration and we conceded a goal which was unfortunate, but we just to keep our heads high, look forward and keep supporting each other,” said.
“We know that defeats are part of the game and we knew that as much as we keep winning it would get more difficult with every game that we play so we knew it would be difficult, we did our best today but it was not just not meant to be and we just have to forge ahead.”
The former Power Dynamos striker says the team should just pick themselves up and focus on the games ahead.
“I think we gave everything we had and it was just unfortunate that we lost it towards the end. We just have to pick up ourselves from this and look forward to what’s coming ahead,” he said.
“We noticed their weakness in transition and we tried to utilise it. We had some good opportunities that we did not utilise. We just have to build on that, learn from that and make sure when we go into the next game we are prepared. “
Hamdy Fathy netted an additional time header to help the Seven time AFCON winners continue their dominance over Chipolopolo a team they have not lost to since 1996.
Next up for Chipolopolo is another international friendly match against Uganda on Tuesday at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium at 14h00.
