While in opposition we raised a number of concerns against some strange and suspicious acts by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ). The UPND was concerned about among other things: The registration of minors as voters and biased voter registration exercise. Whereby only most of the voter registration machines sent to our perceived strongholds proved to have faults.

Today I was privileged to meet the commission delegation. I still made it very clear that we are not Chameleons which change their skin colors to suit the new environment. I instead reminded the ECZ that our concerns while in opposition must be addressed regardless of having (UPND) formed government failure to which, the same will be raised against them by the now opposition political parties and they shouldn’t expect our sympathy. It is high time the ECZ operated independently to meet the expectations of the majority citizens.

To this fact, I wish to make it clear that we don’t expect the ECZ to send damaged machines in perceived strong holds (if there will be any) of the opposition political parties. Likewise, we don’t expect minors to register as voters in our strongholds. The exercise must instead be done equally across the country and it must reflect the true will of the people.

I am happy that ECZ is already talking about the continuous voter registration exercise ahead of the 2026 General Election. We have always believed in free and fair elections.
