Economic and Equity Party President CHILUFYA TAYALI has written to the Attorney General’s Chambers and Secretary to Cabinet to stop payment of benefits to former President EDGAR LUNGU until he states that he is no longer involved in active politics.

Mr. TAYALI through his lawyers JOSEPH CHIRWA and Company says this must also be supported by necessary amendments on the entries at the Registrar of Societies and an acknowledgement letter from the PF Central Committee that Mr. LUNGU is no longer party President.

He has further demanded immediate pay back of all monies paid to Mr. LUNGU as part of his benefits from August 26, 2021 when he purportedly resigned as PF President and from active politics.

Mr. TAYALI says the demands emanate from the continued announcement by PF Members of the Central Committee that Mr. LUNGU is still Party President and they rejected his resignation on August 26, 2021.

He has since given the government a seven day ultimatum to carry out remedial measures failure to which the lawyers will proceed with court proceedings.

And Attorney General MULILO KABESHA has confirmed receipt of Mr. TAYALI’s demand letter from his lawyers.

Mr. KABESHA has told ZNBC News in a telephone interview that he received the letter today and will respond within the given period but could however not state the government’s position saying he will await instructions from  his clients who are government.

He says Mr. TAYALI’s lawyers may proceed to court depending on his response.

Mr. KABESHA stated that he will however reply in confidence and not through the media as part of respecting client confidentiality.
