Community Development minister DOREEN MWAMBA says the ministry is currently in consultation with ZICTA And SMART Zambia to support the digitization of the entire social cash transfer .
Ms MWAMBA says while , social cash transfer beneficiaries in urban areas receive payments through banks and mobile money , the rural areas have lagged behind.
She says this is because most beneficiaries are either unbanked or do not have access to mobile phone technology.
Ms MWAMBA said this during the breakfast event hosted by IDINSIGHT under the theme : the role of data and evidence in effective policy making ; getting value for money by prioritizing impact.
She also disclosed that Government is in the process of developing an Monitoring and Evaluation system which will enhance Data collection for social protection programs .
The minister said working with organizations such as IDinsight,the ministry will enhance its capacity and strengthen data systems .
Ms MWAMBA said the Government further plans to increase the number of social cash beneficiaries to over 1.3 million by the end of the year.
She further said nearly 250,000 farmers are on the Food Security Pack Program with basic farming inputs.
Ms MWAMBA said over 30,000 adolescent girls access secondary education through the keeping Girls in school program while nearly 100,000 women are being helped through the supporting women’s livelihoods.
And IDinsight Zambia country lead SYLVIA MWAMBA said the organisation is willing to work with Government to improve lives .
Dr. MWAMBA said as the Country strives to strengthen the economy, the voices and the priorities of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable communities should be taken care of .
