The Mansa Magistrate court has set September 25 and 26 as dates for commencement of trial in the Sugilite scandal involving former Luapula Province Minister DERRICKY CHILUNDIKA and 18 others.

Mansa Principal Resident Magistrate PEGGY BANDA set the date when the 19 suspects appeared before her for plea.

ZANIS reports that appearing before Mansa Principal Resident Magistrate BANDA, was Mr. CHILUNDIKA, former Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer GLORIA MULELE, former Luapula Province Deputy Permanent Secretary ROYD MWANSA and others.

All the suspects denied the charges in their pleas.

In count one, the 19 have been slapped with the offence of ‘Carrying out mining operations without a license, while in the second count the accused are charged with ‘Conveying property reasonably suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

One of the suspects JONES NKANDU has also been charged with the offence of ‘Giving False Information to a Public Officer.

The court read out the charges to the respective defendants who acknowledged understanding of the counts slapped on them.
