The Department of National Parks and wildlife has captured a stray lion, which had been terrorising Machiya area in Mpongwe district on the Copperbelt.
The adult lion is reported to have strayed into the area and killed 4 cattle last week.
Department Acting Assistant Director of Research and Veterinary Services, BILLY NG’OMBWA has confirmed the capture of the lion, saying it has since been taken back to the Kafue National Park in Mumbwa, Central province.
Dr NG’OMBWA said the operation was undertaken, with support from wildlife conservation partners, at a cost of 30,000 Kwacha.
He has since explained the lion might have strayed into Mpongwe, after wandering away from its pride, after reaching sexual maturity, which he says is very normal.
