Speaker of the National Assembly NELLY MUTTI says it is unacceptable for the Leader of Opposition in Parliament to attack a presiding Officer in the media when they are procedures to express displeasure.
Ms. MUTTI says if a Member of Parliament is not happy with the conduct of any Presiding Officer, they are at liberty to register their concerns within the laid down procedures.
The Speaker is saddened by the conduct of some senior parliamentarians in attacking Presiding Officers in Public because they cannot go to the public to defend themselves.
Ms. MUTTI says senior Members of Parliament like the leader of opposition, BRIAN MUNDUBILE are expected to help presiding officers to manage other Parliamentarians.
She further says the matter will be addressed within the procedures of Parliament.
Ms. MUTTI was speaking on arrival at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport from Ghana where she was awarded the Commonwealth Parliamentarian of the year 2023.
Ms. MUTTI won the award at the 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference.
