The Ministry of Health has upgraded Sikongo Rural Health Center to a Mini Hospital in an effort to take specialized health services to the district.

At the moment, Sikongo District has no hospital and all complicated health cases are referred to Yuka Mission Hospital and Kalabo District Hospital which are located in neighbouring Kalabo District.

Sikongo District Commissioner HENRY MWALYE says the upgrading of Sikongo Rural Health Center will take advanced health services closer to the people of Sikongo.

Mr. MWALYE told ZNBC News that the move by the Ministry of Health will also help reduce the cost the district incurs in referring patients to Kalabo where hospitals are located.

And in an effort to improve infrastructure at the Mini Hospital, construction of a new mother’s shelter has been completed under CDF at the cost of 7-hundred thousand kwacha.
