Police in Lusaka have arrested opposition Patriots for Economic Progress President SEAN TEMBO in connection with the offence of Hate speech.
Mr. TEMBO is alleged to have posted hate speech on his Facebook page under the name of SEAN E. TEMBO.
Zambia Police Deputy Public Relations Officer DANNY MWALE says the arrest follows the failure by the opposition leader to report to the Police after being served a call out on 23 October.
In a statement to ZNBC News in Lusaka, Mr. MWALE said Police further made efforts to contact his lawyer but the calls went unanswered despite making commitments that they would avail their client to Police.
He says Police went to Mr. TEMBO’s house in Ngwerere area this morning where he locked himself, forcing officers to gain entry to the house to apprehend him.
Meanwhile, Former Defence Permanent Secretary STARDY MWALE has been arrested in connection with the offence of Seditious Practices.
Mr. MWALE, who is also Patriotic Front Copperbelt Province Chairperson, is alleged to have posted an audio on various social media platforms where he was heard instructing millers in the country to stop the production of mealie meal for 30 days to entice the
millers to revolt against the government.
