Works and Supply Minister Sylvia Chalikosa has directed officers in her ministry to urgently resolve the water crisis at Kitwe Teaching Hospital.
Ms. Chalikosa says leaking pipes and sewer at the basement of the health facility should be worked on immediately.
The Minister said this after undertaking a tour of the hospital, in the company of Acting Senior Medical Superintendent Dr. Chileshe Mboni and District Commissioner Chileshe Bweupe.
She said her ministry is taking stoke of challenges facing public institutions across the country in order to uplift their standards.
Ms. Chalikosa noted that most of the public infrastructure is in the state of obsolete, arising from years of neglect to routine repair and maintenance works.
She further urged officers to work with management at the hospital to come with a Bill of Quantity-BOQ for areas that require immediate facelift.
And Dr. Mboni informed the visiting Minister that the hospital has a LOT of water leakages in the operating theatre and some admission wards.
Ms. Chalikosa earlier called on Kitwe District Commissioner Chileshe Bweupe at his office before inspecting the presidential lodge in Ndeke Township.
