The Road Development Agency -RDA says the procurement process to identify a contractor to work on the damaged portion of Lusaka-Mongu of the road, has reached an advanced stage.

Acting Director, Communication and Corporate Affairs, ANTHONY MULOWA has disclosed the development to ZNBC news after checking on the recently rehabilitated Kafue River Hook Bridge on Lusaka-Mongu road.

Mr. MULOWA has assured motorists that RDA will in the interim continue carrying out intervention works on a road which is in a deplorable state, as they wait for the full rehabilitation of the bad section of the road.

And Road Development Agency-RDA Western Province Regional Manager, PAUL HABASIMBI says the rehabilitated Kafue River Hook Bridge is expected to last for over 50 years.

Mr. HABASIMBI said with routine maintenance, the life span of the bridge is expected to be 50 years or more, before full scale rehabilitation.

He said the bridge is expected to stand the test of time with the quality of rehabilitation works that have been.

Meanwhile, Mr. HABASIMBI has disclosed that the components from the Kafue River Hook Bridge temporary structure which has been decommissioned will be  used to construct crossing points in Kaoma and Mongu.

The bridge, which was rehabilitated at a total cost of 167 Million Kwacha, was commissioned on 24 May, 2023, exactly 50 years from the date it was first officially opened by First Republican President, Dr. KENNETH KAUNDA.
