Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO says the government is prioritizing public health security in an effort to protect citizens from diseases.
Ms. MASEBO says the government has committed huge sums of money in the national budget to addressing pandemics.
Speaking at a High Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response at the ongoing 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Ms. MASEBO said the government has also strengthened disease surveillance.
She called on neighbouring countries to join in cross border disease surveillance to protect citizens.
Meanwhile, a number of medical personnel from around the world are conducting virgils and singing songs in memory of their colleagues who died during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The health workers, who are calling themselves the Global Scrub Choir, have composed songs which they are singing daily at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Global Scrub Choir Director EMMA O’BRIEN said the songs are being performed to send a message to world leaders that health workers also have needs which should be attended to.
