Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says government has made progress in ensuring that media regulation becomes a reality in Zambia.
Mr. Kasolo says government is working closely with the media fraternity to create a regulatory body empowered by legislation to bring sanity to the practice.
He explains that government is worried with the escalating levels of fake news and that it wants a regulatory body to help address the challenge by making sure that only qualified personnel are allowed to practice in the media.
Mr. Kasolo states that other professionals have sanity in their fields because of the regulations they have embraced.
He notes that there is no excuse for irresponsible journalism and stressing the need to put in place measures that will protect Zambia from the vice of spreading fake news.
Mr. Kasolo was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Livingstone.
