The Human Rights Commission has commended President Edgar Lungu for pardoning 2,993 inmates and granting of unconditional bail to 2,719 remandees.
Commission Spokesperson Mweelwa Muleya Commission says the pardoning of inmates on the eve of Africa Freedom Day is commendable .
He says the release of five thousand , seven hundred and three inmates and remandees is extremely significant because it will contribute to family and society stability.
Mr. Muleya says the move will also reduce congestion in Prisons .
He has appealed to family members and society at large to accept those who have been released.

On Friday, President Lungu pardoned some prisons as part of the African Freedom Day cerebrations.
