Zambia records over eight thousand cancer related deaths every year.
This is out of the over 13,000 new cancer cases recorded annually.
Cancer Diseases Hospital Public Relations Officer, MWIZA MWIYA says Cancer continues to be a significant public health problem that is negatively affecting the social and economic wellbeing of people.
In a statement issued to ZNBC News, Ms. MWIYA said four of the top five common cancers in Zambia affect women, with cervical cancer topping the list.
She said this is followed by Kaposi’s Sarcoma, Prostate cancer, Breast Cancer and Cancer of the food pipe.
Zambia has joined the rest of the world in commemorating breast cancer awareness month, which falls in October every year.
This year’s commemoration is under the theme thrive 365, year-round commitment to promoting awareness, support and Action to Breast Cancer.
