Government has started the distribution of farming inputs under the Farmer Input Support Program (FISP) for the 2023-24 farming season in Northern Province.
Northern Province Permanent Secretary BERNARD MPUNDU disclosed that over 80,000 farmers have so far deposited their K400 contributions out of 98 thousand 3-hundred and 15 targeted FISP beneficiaries in the province..
He was speaking during the Mungwi district seedfair and flagging off of 2023-24 FISP distribution.
He added that government has added common beans and sunflower on the legume pack that only had soybeans and groundnuts to increase household food and nutrition security.
And Northern Province Agricultural Coordinator SYLVESTER NYENDWA has warned farmers intending to share the FISP packs among individuals for the 2023-2024 farming season.
Mr. NYENDWA explained that farmers who will be found sharing FISP inputs will be blacklisted from the program.
Meanwhile, Farmer Representative TITUS CHILUFYA has praised the government saying that early distribution will give farmers ample time to plan the planting of their crops.
Mr. CHILUFYA also appreciated government commitment to sustain food and nutrition security at household level by adding other crops under the legume pack.
