President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has directed Home Affairs Minister JACK MWIIMBU to immediately set up special housing areas to host female inmates with babies away from Correctional facilities.
President HICHILEMA says Government will not allow any child to grow up in a Correctional facility.
Speaking when he officiated at a pass-out parade for 1017 Correctional Warders and Wardresses at Nyango Correctional Staff Training School in Kaoma today, President HICHILEMA said innocent children should NOT serve sentences for crimes committed by their mothers.
And Mr. MWIIMBU said the Ministry has embarked on capacity building programmes across departments to enhance service delivery.
Mr. MWIIMBU said Government is committed to upholding the rule of law to guarantee safety of citizens, civil rights and liberties.
Meanwhile, Correctional Services Commissioner General FREDERICK CHILUKUTU said the course- one intake of 2022 which passed out today is the largest group in the history of the Service.
And Mr. CHILUKUTU said the Service is working with ex-inmates to form cooperatives as a reintegration initiative.
