By Paul Shalala-

Mines Minister PAUL KABUSWE says negotiations on the ownership of Konkola Copper Mines and Mopani Copper Mines are STILL ongoing.

Mr. KABUSWE says a decision will not be made today as promised because the two parties are still yet to agree on a number of issues.

He says he will give periodic updates on the matter until a final decision is made.

And Mr KABUSWE says the Government wants to ensure that Zambians benefit from the mineral resources.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka this afternoon, Mr. KABUSWE said the mining sector has enough laws that govern the sector.

And the Ministry of Mines has submitted a Memorandum to Cabinet for the establishment of the Minerals Commission which is set to regulate the mining sector.

Mr. KABUSWE said the commission will regulate the sector especially the production and sale of precious metals such as Sugilite, Gold and Copper.
