Agriculture Minister REUBEN MTOLO has called for joint ventures between Zambia and China in the agricultural sector.

Mr. MTOLO says Zambia can learn a lot from China in areas of increasing production for the country’s domestic and export markets.

He says the Government has observed that China, despite meeting domestic consumption demand for its over 2-billion people, still remains with a surplus of its agricultural produce for export.

Mr. MTOLO said this when he received Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs RENJIAN TANG at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

He further stressed that Zambia can learn from China’s agriculture sector through joint ventures.

Mr. MTOLO further noted the need for him and the Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs to start working on frameworks between the two countries that will enhance relations and also share best practices in the agriculture sector.

And Dr. TANG said his country is ready to work with Zambia in improving the agriculture sector.

He said this, however, should be done for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
