MKAIKA Members of Parliament PETER PHIRI has been fined 100,000 KWACHA by the LUSAKA Magistrate Court for failure to attend court sessions on three consecutive occasions.
Mr. PHIRI was surety of LUMEZI Member of Parliament MUNIR ZULU who is facing a libel case.
Chief Resident Magistrate DAVIES CHIBWILI has dismissed Mr. PHIRI’s defence for not attending court sessions on grounds that he was allegedly sick.
The Chief Resident Magistrate ruled that Mr. PHIRI’s defence is not backed by medical evidence.
This is in a matter where LUMEZI Member of Parliament MUNIR ZULU is slapped with three counts of libel.
Mr. ZULU is accused of having defamed Finance Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Minister CHARLES MILUPI and Road Development Agency Board Chairperson MULCJAND KUNTAWALA.
