Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO say Government will strengthen the Ministry of Finance and National Planning in dealing with population issues.
Mrs. NALUMANGO says this will accelerate implementation of the National population policy and the International Conference on population plan of action in Zambia.
She says Zambia considers the implementation of the International Conference on population and development programme for action as vital for achieving its goal of becoming a prosperous middle income country by the year 2030.
Mrs. NALUMANGO was speaking when she officially opened the African Population Experts Committee and Ministers in charge of population meeting in Lusaka today.
The Ministerial meetings form the ten year review of the Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development.
And Democratic Republic of Congo –DRC- Minister of Health who is the Chairperson for the Specialised Technical Committee on Health, Population and Drug Control ROGER KAMBA said it is important for countries to monitor global trends such as Covid-19 and climate change and their impact on population and development.
Dr. KAMBA said there is need to invest in Africa’s ability to face such pandemics in order to build its ability to withstand external shocks.
Meanwhile, UN Assistant Secretary General and UNFPA Deputy Executive Director Programmes, DIENE KIETA said resolutions emerging from the Ministerial meeting needs to be guided by evidence and data on emerging issues.
Ms. KEITA said this will ensure recommended policies and programmes serve the current and future generations.
