Government says the challenges facing many mining communities can be resolved if mining firms sourced services and supplies from the locality.

Minister of Mines PAUL KABUSWE says mining communities have for a long time not seen the full benefits of their wealth.

He, however, says the government is working on stopping the widespread externalization of resources and opportunities from locals.

In a speech read on his behalf by Copperbelt Deputy Permanent Secretary DANIEL KAMENGA at the 2023 mining local content conference in Kitwe, Mr. KABUSWE said local content has proved to be an effective remedy to the challenges facing mining communities across the continent.

And Lumwana Mining Company Sustainability Manager CHRISTOPHER MUKALA urged local businesses involved in supplying the mines to be innovative as there are many opportunities in the sector.
