One Miner has died after a wall collapsed at NFCA underground mine in Chambishi on the Copperbelt.
Kalulushi District Commissioner KELLY JIBINGA says preliminary findings indicate that the wall at the 788-meter level collapsed on Tuesday leaving five miners trapped.
Mr. JIBINGA told ZNBC News in Kitwe that four of the miners managed to get out of the rubble, but unfortunately one died and the body is still trapped underground.
And NFCA Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer JOHN MTONGA who also confirmed the accident says the rescue team has made progress to retrieve the body of the deceased.
Meanwhile, National Union of Miners and Allied Workers President SAUL SIMUJIKA has told ZNBC News in Kitwe that the miner was part of the five JCHX Employees, a contracting firm engaged by NFCA.
He said the search team is being hampered by unstable ground which gave in yesterday during the mission.
