A 39-year-old miner from Luanshya has died after a rock hit him while working underground at NFCA Mining in Chambishi.
The victim has been identified as DUNCAN BWALI of house number 690 Section 9 of Luanshya’s Roan Township.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer PEACEWELL MWEEMBA disclosed that the deceased was a worker for JCHX Mining, a contracted firm at NFCA Mining in Chambishi and was on duty underground with others when he met his fate.
Mr. MWEEMBA stated that the victim was rushed to the mine clinic where he was pronounced dead and that his body has been deposited in Sinozam Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
He further said that a team of stakeholders to visit the scene is being constituted, while an Inquiry file has been opened.
