Local Government and Rural Development Minister GARY NKOMBO says the media is a critical stakeholder in the implementation of the decentralisation programme.
Mr. NKOMBO says as the government works on the realisation of the decentralisation agenda, the media plays a crucial role in enhancing and promoting the implementation process through positive dissemination of information.
This was in a speech read on his behalf by Permanent Secretary for Administration MAAMBO HAAMAUNDU during a media breakfast meeting for Heads of public media houses in Lusaka.
He urged the media to highlight achievements scored by the government in its objective for national development.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Office Decentralisation Secretariat Director JERE MWILA noted that media support in the decentralisation implementation process will help provide information to the public on the performance of the local authority.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Devolution Support Programme Project Coordinator NGOZA MUNTHALI said the goal of the programme is to strengthen financing, institutional performance and accountability of town councils in the country.
In May this year, President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA launched the Decentralisation policy.
