Police in the mining town of Mufulira district have arrested a 28 year old suspected rapist.
The rapist was arrested at around 05.30 hours this morning in a mining surbub near Hindu hall.
Before his arrest, the suspect identified as Daniel Malaya is alleged to have raped a 19 year old woman of Chitimukulu avenue at around 03.00 hours in the early hours of women’s Day today.
The suspect was nabbed with a stolen flat screen TV and mobile phones.
Police have disclosed to Mafken FM radio that the serial rapist Daniel Malaya who has been on the police wanted list for a year now is a resident of kawama compound in kitwe.
Malaya is said to be behind the spate of robberies and 13 rape cases in Mufulira.
A fortnight ago, Malaya is said to have raped an elderly woman and her daughter.
The suspect also raped two students from a boarding house in Maina Soko avenue.
Last year, a nurse working for a Government hospital is also said to have been raped by the lone serial rapist.
The suspect was found with a screw driver, an instrument he is said to have been using to threaten his attackers.
Copper belt Acting Police Commanding Officer Tresfold Kasale is yet to issue a comprehensive statement over the matter.
