Lusaka City Council has become the first local authority at which employees and their qualifications will be audited by the Local Government Commission.
The commission Chairperson Ackson Sejani says his team will effectively today start interrogating allegations of ill qualifications by staff holding supervisory positions and employment of party cadres by the previous administration.
He was speaking at a press briefing at the Lusaka City Council.
The Local Government Commission of Zambia is responsible for the recruitment of staff in local authorities.
The staff include town clerks, council secretaries and directors.
Mr Sejani says all workers employed by the Lusaka City Council will have an interaction with the Local Government Commission members and account for their employment.
He says the local authority members will present their qualifications to ascertain whether they match the positions they occupy.
Mr Sejani says depending on the employee audit at the Lusaka City Council, the Local Government Commission may recommend a country wide accountability process in all the 116 districts of Zambia.
