The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- is concerned with the lack of response from local printing companies on their capacity to print the 2026 ballot papers.

ECZ Chairperson MWANGALA ZALOUMIS says the Commission recently wrote to all well-known printing companies in Zambia, including Government Printers, with the view to assess their capacity to print ballot papers.

She has said in an interview with ZNBC in Kitwe that NO printing company has responded to the request for the Commission to assess their capacity to print ballot papers locally.

Mrs. ZALOUMIS said the decision to engage local firms on the matter came after stakeholders complained about the cost of printing ballot papers abroad.

She, however, said the widow is still open but that any local printing company wanting to take part in the bidding process for a tender to be placed soon, must be assessed on capacity to print ballot papers.

And Mrs. ZALOUMIS said there are no delays in the engagement of a substantive Chief Executive Officer for the Commission.

She added that interviews for the CEO were conducted recently and that the Commission will soon announce the outcome.
