The Livingstone City Council has sternly warned people mining sand near the Railway line in the Highlands residential area to immediately stop the activity or face the wrath of the law.
Council Public Relations Manager, Melvin Mukela says the action is a danger to both human life and the railway infrastructure in the area.
Mr. Mukela says if people continue with the illegality in the area, the soil holding the railway line will start to weaken and eventually lead to the collapse of the transport infrastructure.
And Nicholas Chulu a resident of Highlands said the mining activities are also posing a great danger to the environment.
He has urged the local authority to swiftly move in and ensure that the illegal activities are brought to an end.
