Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Jean Kapata says Zambians must find alternative sources of energy instead of indiscriminately cutting down of trees.
Ms Kapata says the cutting if trees has a lot of negative effects on the ecosystem and humanity as a whole.
She said this when she toured a Solid Bamboo Plantation in Kawaza Chiefdom in Katete District.
Ms Kapata says Solid Bamboo trees can be used as alternative sources of heat energy after producing charcoal from it.
The Minister has implored the Forestry Department in Katete District to extend the Solid Bamboo Tree planting project to the rest of the Province.
And Katete District Commissioner Joseph Makukula has told the Minister that the District has embarked an environmentally friendly programme aimed at addressing the effects of excessive tree cutting.
Meanwhile, Chieftainness Kawaza has expressed happiness that the project has been piloted in her area.
