The Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company has shut down the IOLANDA treatment plant in Kafue to conduct repair works on the main supply line.

Managing Director JILLY CHIYOMBWE says the works will cost the water utility company over 1.6 million Kwacha.

Mr. CHIYOMBWE says the shutting down of the plant marks the start of the 60 days of water rationing which was announced last week.

He says most areas in the city will be cut off from supply for an average of between 4 to 6 hours per day.

Addressing the media in Lusaka today, Mr. CHIYOMBWE explained that critical institutions will be exempted during the period of water rationing.

He said the water utility has since drawn up a schedule which will be distributed to the public.
