Last night President Hakainde Hichilema wrote:
Today, the Ministry of Technology and Science and the Ministry of Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Huawei Technologies Ltd.
Under this MOU, Huawei Technologies Ltd will train 50 instructors and 5000 students to develop youth capacity in technology and also build an innovation hub which will facilitate for creative students to showcase their talent. Additionally, 50 sponsorships will be offered.
Huawei Technologies Ltd was led by Mr Chen Lei President of Huawei – Southern Africa while the two government Ministeries were represented by Mr Douglas Syakalima, Minister of Education and Mr Felix Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science.
We recall our address to the 13th National Assembly, where we underscored our administration’s desire to mainstream technology and innovation in national programmes. This will tap into the talents and creativity of Zambians and help our nation evolve into a 21st century country and economy.
We believe that no country can develop fast enough without the critical component of technology. This commendable initiative by Huawei Technologies Ltd which hails from our enduring relationship with China since our independence will go a long way in offering deserving students good opportunities.
President of the Republic of Zambia.
