Ministry of Energy Permanent secretary FRANCESCA ZYAMBO has bemoaned the rise in demand for charcoal and firewood in urban areas.
Dr. ZYAMBO says it is unfortunate that even with easy access to modern energy supply the demand and consumption of charcoal and firewood is still high.
Speaking during the National Indaba on Liquefied Petroleum Gas -LPG- in Lusaka today, Dr. ZYAMBO called on urban communities to be advocates and champions for enhanced energy technologies and modern energy practices.
Meanwhile, USAID Alternative to Charcoal -A2C- Private Sector Engagement Coordinator MOLIEHI SHALE said the institution will continue promoting behavioral change on the benefits of using gas.
Dr. SHALE further called on government to help facilitate for a cylinder manufacturing company in Zambia to ease access to gas.
He said this in a presentation made on his behalf by Private Sector Finance Advisor TOM LIYANDA.
