President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has unveiled plans to connect one million rural dwellers to electricity, under the 1,000 mini-grid power project.
President HICHILEMA says the 1,000 mini – grid will bridge the energy gap in rural areas and enhance the quality of lives of rural dwellers.
The President said this when he addressed Virtually members of the Global Leadership Council and the Rockefeller Foundation, and UK based Entrepreneur Strive Masiyiwa who have gathered in New York.
President HICHILEMA further urged the gathering to help fund another initiative dubbed the 5, thousand mini grid project to help increase access to electricity in rural areas to about 51 percent by 2030.
He said Zambia has the potential to become a leading net exporter of power and is looking to diversify its energy mix.
President HICHILEMA invited the cooperating partners to come and witness the launch of the 1,000 mini-grid power project before the end of the year.
