President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says the Church should be free to summon him whenever they feel the need to seek audience on various national matters.
President HICHILEMA says the Church has a role to render counsel to him and Government.
He said this in Lusaka today at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross during the enthronement of Archbishop Dr. ALBERT CHAMA as Bishop of Lusaka Diocese and the commemoration of the Church’s 60-years anniversary.
President HICHILEMA said government appreciates the role of the Anglican Church as a critical leader of society through its contribution to the well-being of the country such as the hosting of several national reconciliation meetings.
Meanwhile, President HICHILEMA said he is aware of the challenges that the people of Zambia are going through such as the high mealie meal prices.
He said Government is already working on the matter that is being caused by a number of factors.
And in his sermon, Bishop WILLIAM MCHOMBO of Eastern Diocese called on the new Bishop of Lusaka, ALBERT CHAMA to serve the Church and the people diligently.
Bishop MCHOMBO urged Archbishop Dr. CHAMA to carry on the reconciliation mandate of the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross especially in times when the nation is faced with political differences.
