President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has condemned the coup in Niger and the illegal detention of that country’s President MOHAMED BAZOUM.
President HICHILEMA has called for the immediate and unconditional release of President BAZOUM and has urged the involved soldiers to stand down.
The President says Zambia is in full support of the African Union’s position that the country must promptly return to Constitutional Order.
He says the Zambia firmly opposes any actions that compromise peace, security, and stability anywhere and thus urges an immediate halt to the archaic and unacceptable act against Niger’s Constitutional order.
President HICHILEMA says Zambia will stand with President BAZOUM, the government, and the people of the Republic of Niger in upholding the principles of democracy and respecting the country’s Constitution.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News this evening by State House Chief Communication Specialist CLAYSON HAMASAKA.
