The Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry has signed an agreement with the United National Conference on Trade and Development to modernize customs procedures.
Commerce Permanent Secretary LILLIAN BWALYA says the main beneficiary is the Zambia Revenue Authority- ZRA.
ZRA will be supported through the European Union and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa under the Zambia Border Posts Upgrading Project.
Ms BWALYA says the project which will include the strengthening of existing automated customs processes through harmonisation of clearance procedures in all customs offices will be implemented till May 2024.
She says the project will enhance adherence to the agreed customs and trade facilitation principles and procedures.
In a statement issued to ZNBC News, Ms BWALYA said Government has already begun the process of reducing the number of border agencies and encoding Coordinated Border Management principles within the operational framework for border agencies.
