Government says it will help rebuild businesses  affected by fire that swept through some parts of Kitwe’s Chisokone market last night.

Chief Government Spokesperson CHUSHI KASANDA says the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- and other Government agencies, will assess the extent of the damage in order to assist the affected traders.

In a statement to ZNBC News, Ms. KASANDA said the Government will work closely with market authorities to implement necessary safety measures to mitigate the risk of fire.

Ms. KASANDA says it is sad that, within a short period, Chisokone market has been struck by fire.

And Ms. KASANDA, who is also Information and Media Minister, has condemned the reported attack on Prime TV Journalist MATHEWS NDANDULA in an incident that occurred yesterday in Muombe Village in Luapula Province.

She says the incident took place when Green Economy and Environment Minister COLLINS NZOVU visited the area to check on a Sugilite Mine.

She adds that an angry mob targeted the journalist, roughing him up and attempting to break his camera, resulting in injuries as he tried to film the visit.

Ms. KASANDA says the behavior will not be condoned in a democratic society like Zambia.

She has called on law enforcement agencies to ensure that they leave no stone unturned and bring all culprits behind this attack to book.
