Chief Government Spokesperson CORNELIUS MWEETWA says former president EDGAR LUNGU’s immunity is intact and government has NO intention of lifting it.

Mr. MWEETWA says Mr. LUNGU’s immunity however does NOT extend to his family members and that asking law enforcement agencies NOT to investigate them is illegal.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. MWEETWA who is also Information and Media Minister, said President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has decided to open a new lease of political life that promotes peace and reconciliation.

Mr. MWEETWA said the government has observed a deliberate campaign by the opposition Patriotic Front to misinform the nation and the world at large that the former president is being victimized.

And, the Information Minister said the call by the Consortium of Opposition Political Parties for an indaba is welcome and that President HICHILEMA has always been open to candid dialogue of national issues.

Mr. MWEETWA however challenged the morality of Citizens First Leader HARRY KALABA and Socialist Party President FRED M’MEMBE to have an alliance with a Party they labeled as being the most violent during the run up to the last General Elections.

Meanwhile, Mr. MWEETWA clarified that the newly acquired Zambia Airways plane has nothing to do with the names of President HICHILEMA as alleged by some opposition leaders.

He said the Government expects the Opposition to critique the Government on matters of substance and provide credible checks and balances.
