Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, JACK MWIIMBU has appealed to the United States Department of State – Bureau Population, Refugees and Migration to help address the root causes of refugee flight.

Speaking during the ongoing 74th Session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees held in Geneva, Mr. MWIIMBU made an appeal to the State- Bureau to shift focus.

According to a press statement released by the Public Relations Unit at the Ministry of home Affairs and Internal Security, Mr MWIIMBU emphasized that the international community’s concentration on providing humanitarian assistance was not effectively resolving the underlying issue.

He urged the world to look deeper into the causes of refugees fleeing their home countries, particularly the prevalence of conflict and warfare in these regions.
Responding to Mr. MWIIMBU’s appeal, Ms. JULIETA NOYES, Assistant Secretary at the United States Department of State-Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, commended Zambia for its efforts in protecting and managing Persons of Concern

Ms NOYES added that the USA has increased funding for African countries, including Zambia, to support refugees and is inclusive of all nationalities.
