Government has been challenged to widely publicize the Constituency Development Fund CDF to local communities including translating the guidelines into local languages.

Speaking during the handover of the Nyanja translated bursaries CDF guidelines in Chipata yesterday, Youth Development Foundation Executive Director Chinoya Muyeye said the CDF is meant to benefit citizens in various communities hence, the need to ensure that they understand the guidelines.

Mr. Muyeye explained that the development will help in ensuring that people in rural areas are not left behind as the funds are meant to uplift the lives of all citizens in the country.

He has further disclosed that through the help of Action Aid, the bursary guidelines have equally been translated to support government’s efforts in ensuring that people have access to adequate information on CDF in the district.

Mr. Muyeye said he is hopeful that the intended people will be able to benefit from the public resources.

Meanwhile, Chipata City Council Social Economic Planner Tobias Phiri disclosed that the local authority already disbursed the Secondary Schools Boarding bursary funds and the skills development funds under the 2022 Constituency Development Funds CDF for Chipata central and Luangeni constituencies.

Mr Phiri said that the total amount that was paid for Luangeni amounted to over 1.9 million Kwacha for 163 learners while for Chipata central a total amount of more than 1.2 million was paid for 194 learners.

The Constituency Development fund CDF was first established in 1995 to support micro-community projects as part of the wider decentralization and local development policy.
