The Ministry of Health has unearthed a scam involving ghost health facilities and workers across the country.
In a ministerial statement made in Parliament, Minister of Health, Sylvia Masebo revealed that a total 161 rural health centers were recorded in Central Province yet officially only 121 centres are documented.
Ms. Masebo equally says in eastern province her officials have a record of 199 rural health facilities when it is 153 centres that exist.
Arising from the scandal, she says five Ministry of Health Directors have been put on forced leave to help with investigations.
The five include Director-Human Resource, Fredrick Mwila and his assistant, Dennis Siamphwisi.
Others are Director of Planning, Henry Kasembe, Chief Human Resource Administrator, Ireen Bwalya, And Senior Human Resource Officer, James Makasa.
Ms. Masebo says the government is shocked to learn that the ministry of health was initially working on fake number of Health centres.
Transparency International (TIZ) has weighed-in on the matter by demanding that people involved in the scheme are made to account for the crime.
